The Human Design system reveals your true nature and your ideal life path. Discover your personality type and be free to be yourself.

The Human Design system is a self-awareness tool that combines astrology, the chakra system, the I Ching and the Kabbalah to reveal a person's personality type, authority and profile. A personality type is an individual's natural state of being at a core level. Their authority is their unique ability to make effective decisions, and their profile is a portrait of how they interact with life and other people.

An elaborate personality blueprint is created from the precise details of a person's birth. Chetyn Parkyn, who is a practitioner of the Human Design system and author of Human Design: Discover the Person You Were Born to Be, noted that this system is a "cultivator of personal freedom, because there is nothing more freeing than being allowed to be yourself. It allows us to see ourselves as part of a greater whole in which we each have our own precious role to hone, our own place in the comic scheme of things."

This intricate system creates a personal chart revealing which chakra centers are defined and consistent for a person, which of the 36 energy channels are active and whether they are conscious or unconscious, and which of the 64 gates at either end of a channel are activated, representing an emotion, trait or tendency in the person. All of this information creates a unique picture of a person's personality, gifts, strengths and weaknesses, revealing how they relate in relationships, work and life.

Even looking at just the chakra centers and where they connect can reveal which of the five personality types a person is:

  1. Manifestor
  2. Generator
  3. Manifesting Generator
  4. Projector
  5. Reflector

Which personality type are you? Explore the following descriptions to see which one seems like a fit.

Manifestors Make Things Happen

These people are driven to achieve and succeed. They have a constant need for action and results, making manifestation look easy. They are born doers, constantly involved in a whirlwind of activity.

Manifestors need the freedom to go for their dreams and goals, and don't enjoy being slowed down. A key to gaining this freedom is to communicate their intentions so others don't feel put off by their busyness. They are powerful motivators but can be taken advantage off if not careful. As Parkyn put it; "As a Manifestor, you have a big responsibility to be clear about to what and whom you lend your manifesting abilities."

Generators are a Powerhouse of Energy

Generators have tremendous life-force energy and are the workhorses of the group. "You are the Duracell or Energizer batter that keeps on going and going when others are fading," according to Parkyn. "Your challenge is to know how and where to best apply this enormous energy."

Since Generators follow through on their commitments, they need to honor their gut response before embarking on projects, otherwise they end up unfulfilled. So rather than jumping in on every opportunity, they need to wait and patiently listen for their internal gut instinct that either says "yes" with an "uh-huh" sensation or says "no" with an "uh-uh" tone. This will prevent others from taking advantage of their strong energy, or from plunging into unrewarding projects.

Manifesting Generators Have the Energy to Make Things Happen

This personality type basically combines the two above. These people have the energy and drive to achieve goals. They are constantly looking for the next challenge, often feeling restless. Unlike Generators though, they can stop midstream and make a course correction (once a Generator has made a commitment, that's it, there's no stopping them). Although they may want to multitask, they achieve better results if they focus on one project at a time.

They key for Manifesting Generators is to listen to the gut response and then waiting for confirmation once they take action. "Respond by listening to your gut, find the moment of truth by putting your toe in the water, and then, if there is clarity to your conviction, make it happen," suggested Parkyn.

Projectors are Waiting in the Wings

Projectors yearn to be included and recognized for their contributions and talents, but because they don't have strong life-force energy, they tend to observe and wait in the background. As Parkyn noted, "there is no doubt you have abilities and gifts in your own right, but your true nature requires them to be recognized first if you are to shine, and this awareness is essential for your personal fulfillment."

Once Projectors have been invited to participate and appreciated for their skills, they make natural guides, managers, organizers and visionaries. But because they don't have the go, go power of Manifestors and Generators, they need to take lots of breaks between activity.

Reflectors Have Clear Vision

This is the rarest of the five personality types, which explains why Reflectors often feel different than others. "The first thing to appreciate is that you live your life in a novel way, yet everyone expects you to view the world and act the same way the do," noted Parkyn.

Reflectors have no defined channels and are therefore receiving others' energy and constantly reflecting it back to them. This makes them very empathetic and extremely sensitive to others energy and emotions. While reflectors make great mirrors for others to see their own true nature, they need plenty of alone time to assimilate and release external energy. Reflectors need to "learn to reflect and not absorb," said Parkyn, if they are to stay balanced and impart their wisdom without being drained.
